Project IMPACT - Lima Ohio serves the Lima/Allen County area providing
long term service to "at-risk" youth in an effort to deter them from the cycle
of juvenile delinquency and/or incarceration. It is the goal of Project IMPACT- Lima
to provide the best long term delinquency prevention service to "at-risk" youth
of Lima/Allen County at the least cost.
The need is
great. Statistics show that students in the Lima City Schools are engaged in violent and
abusive behavior at an alarming rate. Between 1990 and 1994, disruptions increased
over 180%, assaults increased 125% and students carrying weapons increased and alarming
392%. Criminal activity is also increasing at an incredible rate. Between 1991
and 1994, the number of youth under the supervision of the Juvenile Court increase 91% and
from 1990 to 1994, the number of youth incarcerated by the Ohio Department of Youth
Services increased by 54%.
In the
Lima/Allen County area, poverty, unemployment, and high school drop-out rates have
continued to overexpose "at-risk" youth to destructive examples of self and
community survival and underexpose them to effective ways of development and success.
In order to meet this challenge "head on", Project IMPACT - Lima seeks to
alter the conventional view that violence among inner-city youth is inevitable by putting
the issue in a public health perspective that focuses on prevention.
In addition
to the five core programs of Project IMPACT, we offer two
other programs to the youth that we serve; Rites of Passage and
Martial Arts Training. |
